Geology is a practical science for understanding the Earth. Field geology practice is an important practical link in the teaching process of geology major, which is an important teaching content of applying knowledge to practice, combining theory with practice, mastering methods of field geology work, and training students’ ability to analyze and solve problems. Taking the practice of basic knowledge teaching of Nanjing university as an example, this paper analyzes the main problems existing in the field geology practice in recent years, analyzes the reasons and puts forward some solutions. In the process of field geological practice, the selection of practice base, the allocation of teachers, the formulation of practice content, the adjustment of practice time and the scoring are effective ways to improve the effect of field geological practice.
